Mika Hoffman
Excelsior College, Executive Director of the Center for Educational Measurement (CEM)

Mika Hoffman is the Executive Director, Center for Educational Measurement for Excelsior College. She has over twenty years of professional experience in test design, quality control, integration of psychometric analyses, assessments development and production processes for higher education and government. In addition to being a key participant in the development of professional standards for US government language proficiency testing, she has also been a pioneer in the the application of computer-adaptive testing, practical uses of new mastery criteria, and high reliability quality assurance techniques.

Dr. Hoffman is a published author in several professional journals and a regular presenter at related professional workshops and government language conferences. She is a member of the American Society for Tests and Materials (ASTM) and the National College Testing Association (NCTA). Prior to joining Excelsior College in 2012, Dr. Hoffman served as Dean of Test Development, Directorate of Evaluation and Standardization at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California. Dr. Hoffman received her PhD. in Linguistics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Susan Henken-Thielen
UExcel, Brand Director

Susan Henken has more than 25 years of management, marketing and strategic planning experience with companies in a range of industries and maturities—from startups to Fortune 500 enterprises. Her experience spans a variety of products and services, including education, consumer goods, medical devices and health care, and includes work in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Ms. Henken has held leadership roles in several nationally known companies including Cigna and Novartis, as well as smaller companies including BioMedical Research, LTD and Compex Technologies; at each she was responsible for leading the company into new markets and creating and launching a wide variety of new products and services. As the first director of the Marketing Resource Office at Minnesota Project Innovation Inc., a unique federal and state government partnership, Ms. Henken led the establishment of a statewide program providing marketing assistance to small and midsize businesses.

In 2000, Ms. Henken was nominated for membership in Northwestern University’s Council of 100, which recognizes high-achieving women graduates. Grinnell College nominated Ms. Henken to its select Grinnell College Alumni Council, an alumni leadership organization, in 2009. She earned her Masters of Management degree at J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Evanston, IL, with concentrations in Marketing, Strategy and Industrial Relations. She graduated from Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA, with a B.A. in Psychology, and earned membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

Mark W. Michalisin
Excelsior College, Executive Director, Business Development, Center for Educational Measurement (CEM)

Mr. Michalisin graduated from Union College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Union College in 2002. He began his career with SCA Tissue (formerly Encore Paper) in 1994 and served in various leadership positions in sales, marketing and business development over the next 18 years. In July of 2012 Mr. Michalisin joined Excelsior College as Executive Director of Business Development for the Center for Educational Measurement.

Mr. Michalisin is a past President of the Union College Fighting Dutchmen Gridiron Club. He is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Niskauyuna Lacrosse Club and actively participates as a member of its coaching committee.
