Administration and Faculty

UExcel is a leading Credit-by-Examination program created by two global leaders in distance learning: Excelsior College, a regionally accredited institution of higher learning; and Pearson, a leader in academic products and services.  UExcel examinations allow students to prove their knowledge at the introductory level in disciplines such as Psychology, Sociology, College Writing, and Statistics. When students pass UExcel exams they receive college credit as well as an official transcript from Excelsior College. A student who can transfer introductory-level credit to your institution has greater flexibility to enroll in a variety of more challenging and engaging courses and greater motivation to complete their degree.

Professionally Created Exams
The exams, which test learning outcomes for popular introductory level courses, are created by experienced faculty from esteemed institutions around the country in conjunction with Excelsior College experts in educational testing. The exams are subjected to rigorous statistical analysis and standard-setting procedures, including an evaluation by the American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT), which has provided recommendations for UExcel examinations.

Excellent Student Preparation
Students can prepare using a comprehensive selection of study materials including free content guides, textbooks and free open courseware recommendations and practice tests. Students study for exams independently and at their own pace. The support materials are designed to provide college-level content obtained in a traditional college setting. Because the content guides are cross-referenced to the recommended textbooks and the practice tests mimic the actual test, using the preparation materials as a guide for independent study helps students pass exams and receive credit.

Testing Security and Convenience
UExcel tests are offered globally at more than 4,200 Pearson VUE test centers, allowing students to take exams at a location and time convenient for them. The testing centers are highly secure and the exams are computer-based, which streamlines the testing process and provides institutions with the assurance that exam results accurately reflect the student’s knowledge of the exam content.
